Mississippi State upsets Baylor in OT to reach Final Four

(TSX / STATS) -- Morgan William poured in a career-high 41 points, and second-seeded Mississippi State advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history with a 94-85 overtime win over top-seed Baylor on Sunday in the Oklahoma City Region final at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

William, a diminutive junior point guard, hit six 3-pointers, including two in overtime, and handed out seven assists without a turnover. Junior guard Victoria Vivians added 24 points for the Bulldogs, who led for the majority of the game but needed overtime to finish of the Lady Bears.

Mississippi State (33-4) advances to the Final Four in Dallas and will face the winner of Monday's game between defending champion Connecticut and 10th-seeded Oregon.

Sophomore forward Kalani Brown scored 27 points to lead Baylor (33-4), which had its season end in the Elite Eight for the fourth straight year.

Brown scored in the post to give Baylor a 75-73 lead with 1:31 to play in the fourth quarter. But William answered with a drive and layup in the thick of the Lady Bears' defense.

With the game tied 75-75, Baylor got the last possession of regulation, but failed to get off a good shot, sending the game into overtime.

Alexis Prince hit her second 3-pointer overtime to bring the Lady Bears within 87-85 with 1:29 to play, but Baylor wouldn't score again, and William scored the game's final seven points at the foul line to seal the win for the Bulldogs.

Senior Nina Davis added 18 points for the Lady Bears, and senior guard Alexis Jones finished with 16 points.

Mississippi State led 43-40 at halftime, behind 15 points from a Vivians. The Bulldogs maintained their lead for the majority of the third quarter and were up 58-52 after William's third 3-pointer of the game.

However, the Lady Bears went on a run to close out the quarter and seized the lead on a 3-pointer from Alexis Jones that sent Baylor into the fourth quarter with a 61-60 advantage.
