The 30-year-old Marquez has played at the Camp Nou since joining from Monaco in 2003. He has won seven major trophies in just over five seasons, including two Champions Leagues and three Spanish league titles. Marquez said on Barcelona's Web site: "I'm in the best position to sort out (renewing my contract). My idea is to finish my career at Barca. I feel so proud to be part of a club that is more than a club." Barcelona president Joan Laporta backed the idea with Marquez out of contract at the end of the season, saying: "We don't want to lose him." Updated October 6, 2009 |
