Lomu makes rugby comeback in France

MARSEILLE, France (AP) Former All Black winger Jonah Lomu has made his long-awaited comeback to rugby by playing his first match with third-division French club Marseille.

The 34-year old Lomu touched the ball for the first time after 20 minutes of Sunday's 63-18 win over Montmelian in front of 2,500 fans.

Lomu was never a factor in the match, but said he was happy with his return - even if he "struggled a bit to understand my teammates, who speak very fast in French."

Ouedraogo recalled into France squad
MARCOUSSIS, France (AP) Flanker Fulgence Ouedraogo was recalled Sunday into France's squad for the test against New Zealand. The Montpellier player, who didn't feature in the wins over world champion South Africa and Samoa because of a shoulder injury, was one of four changes in France coach Marc Lievremont's 23-man squad. New Zealand beat improved England 19-6
TWICKENHAM, England (AP) New Zealand scored 13 unanswered second-half points to beat an improved England side 19-6 at Twickenham on Saturday. The home team mostly matched the visitors and trailed by just three points until All Blacks scrumhalf Jimmy Cowan touched down in the 57th minute. (MORE)

Scotland shock Australia at Murrayfield

EDINBURGH, Scotland (AP) Scotland beat Australia for the first time in 28 years on Saturday after Wallabies flyhalf Matt Giteau missed an injury-time conversion in a 9-8 defeat at Murrayfield.

Australia wasted two try-scoring chances before outside center Ryan Cross went over in injury time for the only try of the game. That left Giteau with the chance to win the game but the flyhalf, who kicked a first-half penalty, sent his conversion attempt wide. (MORE)

Sexton scores 16 points on Ireland debut
DUBLIN (AP) Flyhalf Jonathan Sexton impressed on debut with 16 points as Ireland warmed up for rugby world champion South Africa by dispatching Fiji 41-6 on Saturday. Sexton, standing in for rested star Ronan O'Gara, converted all five tries - three from the sideline - and landed two penalties in wet and windy conditions for a perfect day of goalkicking and the man of the match award. France hammer hapless Samoa 43-5

SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) France raised expectations of its rugby clash with New Zealand next week by outgunning Samoa 43-5 at Stade de France on Saturday.

The French started their autumn campaign by downing world champion South Africa 20-13 in Toulouse, then debuted two in making a dozen changes and were still too good for Samoa, running in seven tries to one. They led 21-0 after 13 minutes and 33-0 at halftime. (MORE)

Eagles qualify for 2011 World Cup
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) The United States qualified for the 2011 Rugby World Cup when it beat Uruguay 27-6 at Central Broward Regional Park on Saturday. The Eagles defeated Uruguay 27-22 in Montevideo a week ago, and swept the final round of the Americas playoffs 54-28 on aggregate in a repeat of four years ago. (MORE)
