Predators D Ellis out at least four months
(TSX / STATS) -- Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis could be out of action until January, according to the team's website manager Thomas Willis.
"(Predators general manager David) Poile: Ryan Ellis is out for 4-6 months. Doesn't expect him back until around Jan. 1. #Preds," Willis tweeted on Thursday.
Ellis was a workhorse during the Predators run to the Stanley Cup Final, but left Game 5 with an undisclosed injury. He returned for Game 6, but was obviously playing on a hobbled right knee.
Ellis confirmed to Ontario TV station CHCH that he underwent a "minor procedure" on his right knee.
"It looks worse than it probably is," Ellis told CHCH. "Hopefully be back on the ice in no time."
The 26-year-old recorded a career-high 16 goals and 38 points last season, averaging just under 24 minutes per-game. Ellis was tied for third on the Predators and led all of their defensemen with 13 playoff points. He led Nashville in the postseason with two power-play goals.
