Scouting Report

OVERVIEW

LSU's reputation as "DBU" was only enhanced in 2018 with future first-round picks Williams and safety Grant Delpit living up to the standard established in the past by stars Patrick Peterson, Tre'Davious White and Jamal Adams, among many others.

A first-team All-SEC selection and one of three finalists for the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back in 2018, "Greedy" established himself as a star the previous season, leading the SEC with 11 pass break ups and six interceptions as a redshirt freshman before watching his numbers dip (nine passes defended and two interceptions) as opponents wisely opted to ignore his side of the field.

While Williams' combination of size, speed and ball skills are tantalizing, he is not for everyone, showing more of a cover corner mentality against the run than scouts would prefer.

ANALYSIS

Comes with an exceptional combination of height, arm length and straight-line speed for the position. A natural cover corner who displays excellent balance and initial acceleration out of his stance, Williams is buttery smooth transitioning out of his crouch in press, typically remaining hip to hip with most receivers down the sideline or on crossing routes.

When he is caught slightly behind his opponent, Williams' length saves the day as his length and excellent hand-eye coordination allow him to slip his mitts between those of opponents to either break up the pass or steal it for himself.

Truly has earned the nickname "Greedy" (given to him as a child by his grandmother) with his eagerness with the ball in flight, demonstrating excellent body control to win contested passes. Strong hands to pluck passes outside of his frame.

While terrific in coverage, Williams needs to show greater commitment to his craft, relying far too much on his natural traits and showing limited development in technique over his career. Plays with a cover corner mentality against the run, failing to show ideal competitiveness to fight through blocks, at times resorting to duck and swipe tackle attempts.
