Scouting Report
Wright went from widely regarded as the best defensive player in college football in 2014 to a little-seen one in his junior season at Arizona. While the injuries that kept the linebacker off the field certainly delivered a hit to his draft stock, Wright is still considered one of the safer bets on the second day of the draft. He earned unanimous All-America and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors his sophomore season by ranking among the top five players in the country with 163 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and six forced fumbles. However, after playing in 27 games his freshman and sophomore seasons, he managed to reach the field for just three as a junior due to a torn meniscus in his left knee and a sprained right foot. Durability concerns join issues about his overall athletic ability and his speed - he ran the 40-yard dash in just 4.90 seconds at the NFL combine, the third-worst time of 30 linebackers. His productivity when on the field, though, can't be questioned. He proved his worth with a 15-tackle, two-sack showing against New Mexico in the New Mexico Bowl in his final game without playing in the previous three months. NFL teams who value elite production in the box score might be willing to snag Wright in the third round, though he is more likely to fall to the fourth or fifth.
