Panthers lose WR Samuel to ankle surgery
(TSX / STATS) -- Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle, the team announced Tuesday.
Samuel was injured during Monday's 45-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins when his foot was rolled on by Miami safety Reshad Jones in the third quarter.
Samuel caught a season-high five passes prior to being injured. The second-round pick finishes his season with 15 receptions for 115 yards.
"Is there anybody as fast as him?" offensive coordinator Mike Shula said of Samuel. "... We're going to try hard to find ways to put guys in what they do best and then have them go do it."
Samuel's improvement was one of the factors for why the Panthers traded wideout Kelvin Benjamin to the Buffalo Bills prior to the trading deadline.
