Analysis: The Nationals were leading the Mets 8-1 when Latos, 28, was examined on the mound by trainer Paul Lessard before leaving the game. Latos signed a minor league deal with Washington in June after the Chicago White Sox released him. The right-hander was making his first big league start since June 7. Latos threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed three hits and one run with three walks and four strikeouts.

Analysis: Latos went 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in six minor league starts since signing as a free agent with Washington after starting the season with the White Sox. The eight-year veteran was 6-2 with a 4.62 ERA in 11 starts for Chicago before being designated for assignment and eventually released.

Analysis: Latos' fortunes mirrored his team's season. He was 4-0 with a 0.74 ERA after his first four starts as the White Sox raced to a 23-10 start. But Latos had a 7.25 ERA over his last seven starts as the White Sox had dropped 20 of 26 games.

Analysis: Latos' brilliant start is a distant memory and his days in the rotation could be up with James Shields getting the ball Wednesday. Since April 30, Latos' .402 opponent OBP is the fourth-worst among the 120 qualifying pitchers. He had a .223 opponent OBP in his first four outings.

Analysis: A free agent who struggled this spring after signing with Chicago in the offseason, Latos (1-0) was stellar in his White Sox debut while striking out two and walking one. He retired 13 of the first 14 batters and didn't allow a baserunner until Chris Coghlan's one-out single in the fifth - one pitch after left fielder J.B. Shuck dropped Coghlan's foul ball.

Analysis: Latos played for the Marlins, Dodgers and Angels last season, finishing with a 4-10 record and a 4.95 ERA. The 6-foot-6 right-hander is 64-55 with a 3.51 ERA in seven major league seasons. Latos adds another arm to the competition for the last two spots in Chicago's rotation.
