Liverpool hold on to top West Brom, share league lead

Liverpool were made to sweat despite cruising for the majority of their 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday at Anfield.

First-half goals from Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho seemingly had the home side cruising at the interval, with West Brom (2-4-3) unable to make any impression going forward. But Gareth McAuley struck in the 81st minute and Jurgen Klopp's men had to endure a nervy last few minutes before the three points were confirmed and the Reds moved into a tie with Arsenal for the top spot in the Premier League table.

Liverpool (6-2-1) dominated from the off and found it easy to work the ball through the Baggies' backline despite the visitors playing with six across defence. The Reds took the lead after 21 minutes following a flowing team move where Emre Can played in to Roberto Firmino, who in turn crossed for Mane to side-foot in nonchalantly on the half-volley.
