Conte: Pirlo and Giovinco paying price for playing in MLS

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) Antonio Conte says Andrea Pirlo and Sebastian Giovinco paid the price for choosing to play in Major League Soccer after the Italy coach left the duo out of his preliminary 30-man squad for the European Championship.

Giovinco has impressed since moving to Toronto FC in February 2015. The former Juventus striker scored 22 goals and added 16 assists in his first season, and has a league-high eight goals and five assists in 12 games this campaign.

Conte said on Tuesday "it's clear that if you make such choices in football, then at the end you can pay the consequences."
