Big-hitter Levi to play for Mumbai Indians in IPL

NEW DELHI (AP) South African batting sensation Richard Levi has been signed by the Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians for the lucrative Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament.

The 24-year-old opening batsman had remained unsold during the IPL auctions earlier this month but his stock rose after hitting a century off only 45 balls against New Zealand last week to set a world record for the fastest T20 international century.

Levi, who was 117 not out off 51 balls with a world record 13 sixes in what was only his second T20 game for South Africa, will replace Australian allrounder Andrew Symonds, who retired from all forms of the game last week.

The fifth edition of the IPL will be played from April 4 to May 27.
