Florida State RB James declares for NFL draft
(TSX / STATS) -- Florida State safety Derwin James has declared for the NFL draft and will not play in the Seminoles' upcoming Independence Bowl matchup against Southern Mississippi, the redshirt sophomore announced Tuesday.
James is projected as a first-round pick by NFLDraftScout.com.
"On to the next chapter of my life I will be entering the 2018 NFL Draft and will not participate in the bowl game, FOREVER NOLE NATION #dj3," James wrote on his Instagram account.
James was Florida State's lone All-Atlantic Coast Conference First Team selection this season after being the Seminoles' second-leading tackler with 84 stops. He also has two interceptions and one sack.
Thanks in part to James, Florida State (6-6) won its regular-season finale against Louisiana Monroe to become bowl eligible for a 36th consecutive season. James led the Seminoles with 12 total tackles and a quarterback hurry.
